Psychiatry In-patient Substance Profile Changes in COVID year 2020 from 2019 in a Teaching hospital of Eastern Nepal

Subsequent time, after declaration of COVID-19 pandemic, witnessed variable changes in various aspects due to COVID circumstances around the globe. We report and reflect here over observation regarding substance use disorder scenario initial year 2020 reference 2019 (year preceding pandemic). It is an psychiatry in-patient service a teaching hospital eastern Nepal. There were 420 (284 male, 136 female) 279 (194 male 85 admissions respectively. The most striking significant change was seen for Nicotine, both overall disorder-wise. Over all, proportion increased Nicotine (34.05 48.03%) Cannabis (16.67 17.92%) whereas decreased Alcohol (38.33 31.18%), Opiote (7.62 6.81%), Benzodiazepine (6.43 5.73%) other (0.71% nil) among in-patients 2020. Categorically, Use Dependence syndrome (ICD-10) (8.81 21.86%% 25.24 26.17%) (10.71 11.47% 5.72 6.45%). Proportion Harmful dependence increased, decreased, substances too. shows pattern which indicates need some strategic policy tackle this pandemic situation.
